Village Hosted September Chamber Meeting

The Village of Winfield hosted the Greater Winfield Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting in September. Chamber guests and local businesses were given a tour to see limitations of the existing Police Station and Village Hall. After the tour, staff provided a summary of Winfield’s current economic development efforts, including expansion of the façade grant program to make all business locations in the Village eligible. This program offers a 50-50 match up to $4,000 per year to encourage site and facility improvements.

Town Center Redevelopment Planning to Involve Winfield Citizens

The Village is looking for local citizens and businesses to participate in conversations about further land use design and development concept planning for Town Center! Part of this planning process involves gathering local community input through a series of meetings with key stakeholders from the residential, business, institutional, and public sectors.

The Village seeks interested citizens who can lend their expertise and opinions to shape the plan for Town Center. Among the topics will be:

  • The potential new business mix and opportunities for further residential development on both sides of the railroad
  • Improving connectivity between the hospital campus and Town Center
  • Opportunities near the train station created by recent changes in commuting patterns

Idea Wall: The Village has launched a web-based “Idea Wall” for residents to give their thoughts on Town Center development. You can submit comments on various relevant topics and mark your comment on a Town Center map if you have thoughts on a specific property or location. This online community idea portal is open now, and residents can view the public comments and add your own at directly onto the interactive map at https://egretandox.mysocialpinpoint.com/winfieldtc

Walking/Talking Tour: In addition, a Walking/Talking Tour of downtown Winfield will occur on Saturday, October 29th starting at 10:00 am at Village Hall. Join Village planning officials as we host a guided tour of the downtown area. Participants will learn about key changes taking place with new commercial development and the status of land parcels that may be suitable for redevelopment. The tour will also highlight important infrastructure improvements and the potential for improved connectivity between CDH and the downtown. There will be plenty of time for interaction so that citizens can offer their own ideas and vision for Town Center. Please RSVP with Community Development Director Peter Krumins at pkrumins@villageofwinfield.com.

Open House: On Thursday, November 10th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, there will be a Town Center Planning – Open House at the new Park District meeting rooms at 0N020 County Farm Road. During this meeting, consultants will present results of citizen input that has been collected via the online community idea portal. Participants will also be provided with an assessment of the real estate market potential in downtown Winfield. The objective of this session is to allow stakeholders to contribute their ideas about the future development of Town Center.

Lions Park Renovation Project

The new soccer field and small playground at Lions Park on Beecher Avenue along the river is nearing completion. The project is expected to be completed this month. The project includes the installation of field turf for the soccer field, sidewalk entryways, new sideline fencing, a small playground with swings, and a rubberized pour-in-place surfacing. The turfed field will also be used for T-ball games and practices, as the park site was previously used by Winfield In Action. The far north end of the park site still includes a canoe launch for the DuPage River-West Branch and a small rain-garden.
