The “cost of litigation” sign in front of Village Hall has been updated to show Winfield residents the rising amount of tax dollars being spent on School District 34’s lawsuit against Winfield, which is now holding up further development in Town Center. This amount includes legal fees and consultant costs for both parties. Village staff time is also included in the amount, but school district staff time spent on the lawsuit is not being made available publicly, so the true cost in resident tax dollars is under-reported here.    

Residents are encouraged to speak out on this issue important to Winfield’s future, but cautioned that SD 34 is refusing to read public letters at School Board meetings unless submitted through their google comment app, requiring residents to open a google account at tinyurl.com/winfield34boardcomment. The Village continues to read all messages received.
