COVID-19 UPDATE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Winfield Residents, Businesses and Interested parties,
The Village of Winfield is actively tracking the developments related to the COVID-19 (Corona) virus, so I’m sending you an update. As you are no doubt aware, the virus is spreading through DuPage County communities and we need to take this public health crisis seriously.
This week the Village implemented an Emergency Declaration, which was recommended by DuPage County and the DuPage County Health Department. This declaration allows the Village to access available disaster relief funds and provides additional tools to support key services.
Our first priority is the health and safety of our residents, first responders, and Village staff. We are taking the following new measures:
- Village Hall is closed to walk-ins. We remain available by phone at (630)933-7100, and encourage payment of bills by mail or electronically
- The Winfield Police will continue responding immediately to emergency calls. However non-urgent calls will be handled over the phone or by other means
- The DuPage Water Commission reminds residents our tap water remains perfectly fine to use and drink
Other measures were communicated to you in the e-news sent on Monday, March 16 and can be found on the home page of the website. Coordination between government agencies and institutions is critical to an effective response to the COVID-19 virus. We have ongoing communication with local schools, Park District, Fire District, Library, and key institutions such as Central DuPage Hospital. There are new developments each day, and we are coordinating with DuPage County, the DuPage County Health Department, municipal institutions such as DuPage Mayors and Managers, and the Illinois Governor’s office so we have the most current information.
I appreciate your patience in this matter, and my commitment to you is that we will be proactive in providing you with periodic updates to understand best practices such as social distancing, closings of schools and businesses, resources may assist you in your situation, and how to access village services.
Sincerely,
Erik Spande
